Community

Light and Life Church is made up of people who follow Jesus and who are living life in community together. We don’t want anyone to get lost in the crowd so we’ve broken up our ministries into smaller groups that can meet the needs of anyone who enters our doors.

Each of our ministries serves a different purpose and we’d love for you to take a moment to get to know all the ways you can connect with us and with others. We have ministries for various ages, stages of life, and personal needs – there is something for everyone.

Not only are there places to belong, there are ministries in which you can use your skills, time, and training to give back to others locally and globally.

Small Groups

Welcome! We are so glad you are looking into small groups at Light and Life Church. It is our hope you find a group where you can experience growth in Christ and community.

We would love for you to become involved one our existing groups or join our interest list for our next church-wide small group campaign.

A small group at Light and Life Church is a gathering of 4 to 12 people who seek to help each other become more like Christ and typically goes for 8 weeks. Our small groups are sermon-based. You won't have a book to read or video to watch. Our leaders will have the sermon notes from the Sunday message. All we ask is for you to attend the service or listen to it online and bring notes and questions to your small group. Groups typically meet once a week and they meet in homes, coffee shops, restaurants, places of work, and here at Light and Life.

Small Group Values

Our hope is to create biblical disciples in relational environments. “Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” Acts 2.46-47

They do this by sharing God’s Word and opening their lives to one another.

There are four elements essential to a healthy small group:

Community

We were made to have a relationship with God and with others in the hopes of becoming more like Christ (Colossians 3.12-17). While we can’t be deeply connected to everyone, we can be deeply connected to some. When we are open to share, pray, and care for one another, our relationships deepen and we help each other grow (Hebrews 10.24).

Growth

God calls every follower of Jesus to mature in their faith (Ephesians 4.1-3), and we believe this growth happens best when small groups of believers gather to grow in Christlikeness. When people invest in your life and you invest in theirs, growth happens (Ephesians 4.16). That’s why we say “people help people grow spiritually. Small groups are designed to help you.

Disciplines

In our quest to grow in Christlikeness, there are certain disciplines (practices) that can help us. Disciplines such as prayer, study of Scripture, confession, service, and many others can serve as a springboard toward spiritual maturity. However, these disciplines are best modeled in community where they can take deeper root in our personal lives.

Compassion

We believe the church is called to serve the poor, the forgotten, and the dispossessed (Isaiah 1.17; Matthew 25.31-46). When small groups act in compassionate ways in their local communities and around the world, they become expressions of the love of God. These hands extended in compassion toward others are an outflow of community and growth in Christ.

Serve

Thank you for your interest in serving at Light and Life Church.

You have the amazing opportunity to meet and bless others through the giving of your time. God has uniquely created and gifted each believer for serving the Body of Christ. The Bible says “Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.” Ephesians 5.17 (NLT)

Each weekend requires an incredible amount of volunteer man-power to make it run. We’re so thankful for those in our congregation who have stepped up to give their time and talents already, though we are always in need of more helping hands!

Some Volunteer positions include:

There are many areas to serve and we could use your help. You can let us know of your interest in any of the areas below by e-mailing us or by marking a connection card during services. Connection cards can be placed in the offering basket or dropped off at the Welcome Center.

NOT SURE WHERE TO SERVE?

How do you know and understand what the Lord wants you to do? Take a look at what you are good at. Pray. Make a list. Ask others for their opinion. Jump in and serve in areas that have needs. One of the best ways to discover your gifts and abilities is to experiment with different areas of service. Spiritual gift tests and ability inventories have value and can be fun, by they are standardized and don’t take into account your uniqueness. Feel free to take a spiritual gift assessment but make sure to discuss it with a friend or spouse.
